Fantasy Log
Sports have always been a big part of my life and a passion of mine since I was young. The NBA is my favorite league to follow, and as an LA native, The Lakers have always and will always be my #1 team no matter what. My favorite Lakers of all-time would have to be Kobe, D. Fish, and Pau Gasol, and my favorite Lakers era was 2005-2007 due to it's symbolic meaning in Kobe's villian arc. RIP Kobe. I'm also a huge Russell Westbrook fan.

Aside from NBA, I also love the Dodgers and Blue Jays. Baseball was not a sport I grew up watching or playing, but it has become a huge interest of mine over the past few years once I realized that pitcher / batter matchups are literally just anime duels. And no, that was not because of Shohei, I swear. Thank you Manual for introducing me to this beautiful sport. Anyways, I thought it would be fun to archive my fantasy sports teams over the years and vent my frustration.

Draft - Pick #5

This season, my only strategy going into the draft was: get Wemby at all costs. I was graciously assigned to 5th pick which landed me SGA (#5) and Wemby (#24) in rounds 1 and 2. This ended up being disgustingly broken with Shai shooting 649 FTs all season and Wemby being Wemby. Looking back at the season, I'm sure I could have done just as well if not better starting only Shai and Wemby and benching everyone else.

I always draft Dejounte, so getting him at #33 pretty much sealed stocks for the entire season. I do think I could have waited a round and taken Harden or Fox instead but he's daddy af so idc.

With Shai and Wemby as my core, I was set-up to build a more guard-heavy team comp that could effectively put pressure on all categories other than TOs. This strategy ended up working very well as I was able to win BLKs in 17/20 regular season matchups with just Wemby and Claxton. That being said, I do regret taking Clax in the 4th round knowing that I could have taken Alperen or Chet instead. Idk why I didn't take Chet. Also, s/o Jalen Williams. What a legend honestly.

Highlight picks:

Jalen Williams #61 / Season Rank: #35 / .540 FG

Brandon Miller #145 / Season Rank: #91 / 184 3PTM

After cruising through the entire regular season, I was faded HARD in the 1st round due to a mix of a horrendous playoff schedule, overall limp performances across the board, and disgusting career high games from the Ayo Dosunmus and Peyton Pritchards of the world. OKC and SA also only had 3 games that week and Shai and Wemby played so bad that I'd consider it to be the equivalent of a 2 game week from both of them. My team ended up needing to be carried by CJ and Dejounte but ultimately, it wasn't enough to hold off the force of Peyton Pritchard.

While there were a lot of factors working against me, I still lost fair and square and will work on refining my plan for the 2024 - 2025 season.

Takeaways
1. Don't stream players until lineups are announced unless there is 99% certainty they are playing.
2. I genuinely believe that centers who primarily contribute to PTS and REB but don't shoot 3s are very overrated, even if they are getting 15+ rebounds a game. This is because pretty much every player has the capability to grab rebounds, so you can always build a team to can compete in REB without putting major focus in that stat. My philosophy when building a 9cat comp is always to maximize pressure on as many stats as possible, and in that case, I usually value guards and even forwards that can get decent assists over the FG% and REB provided by centers.
3. Be more patient when drafting players coming off injury, especially if they are on the pelicans. I love Trey Murphy and I know he's not ASS, but it was painful owning him this season. I don't know if I could draft him next year, but I know I will regret it.
4. Peyton Pritchard is dead to me.
